a few things

my first bit in dc has been exciting, eventful, and exhausting. running around, trying to figure out the systems for work and home, and now, reforming healthcare (i needed a side project).

outside the metro stations, there are two people: uniformed officers and free-paper-givers. on the way in, one gives me a free little daily newspaper-summary to read. at the other end, when i'm squinting in the sun and wondering which corner i'm on (why are there 3 exits, anyway?), the uniform asks if i need help before i have time to think and points the way.

i met a guy named eldon, like the fish. the movers won't call me back, so i'm still camping out. phone companies are a big scam. i am quickly getting better at ironing. thanks to my airbed, i've discovered that i like beds squishier than i thought i liked. i can walk down quiet streets for 10 minutes one way to a big park, or for 20 minutes the other way to a big mall.

we went to the eisenhower office building, and there were fossils in the marble floor. it was fantastic. there were some better examples upstairs, but i was afraid to pull out the camera until i got back out past security, where i snuck one quickly. so, the picture isn't very good, but you can see at least 2 fossils:
