feedback

today was my last day on the couch! couch-week went out with a very productive bang. then, i last-minute planned a low-key evening with a friend (cw)....but it was not meant to be - we quickly turned into a party of 5, for dinner, a concert, and a jumbo slice. 6 hours and $100 later, i'm back home, exhausted from my low-key evening.

but what i really want to share is juana molina. i recognized her from one of my j-mixes, and dragged everyone along to the black cat to see her. the crowd was rude (nonstop chatter. i took it upon myself to silence several neighors), and the equipment wasn't working (lots of feedback because the sound guys had everything turned way up to try to make her heard above the obnoxious chatter). but she was great - irritated at the feedback, but she kept cool, and the way she layered live clips of her own voice and guitar was completely amazing.

the opening band was psapp, and the headliner was jose gonzalez. i did not know of either of them, but the irish boys in the audience were only there for mr. gonzalez. the irish boys were chatting up my girl friend, which made me think of an exchange between to other women i know: one said "the irish boys who work summers in ocean city aways tell me how beautiful i am and how young I look" - and the other woman said "yeah yeah yeah, irish boys are so fucking charming, aren't they?" at the time it was the perfect comment to derail a diva.

my goodness! have i ever written so much as lately? was it from hanging around with j all last weekend? are cw's multiplicitariferous words wearing off on me? or was it just from being alone on the couch all week? (very likely the couch's fault).
