birthday weekend
hola! it was my birthday last week. j came to visit for a few days over the weekend, and we rocked out. ok, mostly we just walked around a lot, but it still rocked. first, we had a party at a bar with a bunch of my friends here. it was a fantastic time -almost everybody came out. and j was drunk!, which is always a great time (no matter how much he pretends he was sober). c and i traded shirts, and the thought of him squeezing into my little vneck tshirt still makes me laugh (it didn't reach his bellybutton).
friday, j was my housecat - i worked at home, and he napped in the sun. saturday, we walked all the way around the tidal basin with the thundering hordes, peeping the cherry blossoms - remarkably, we survived. we also walked through a museum every so often (early photography at the national galleries, polio at american history, shulman at the building museum). the weather was perfect, and we just walked and walked until i got hungry and demanded food. (remind me to bring lots of snacks on our trip in a few weeks!)
probably the most important thing that happened this weekend is i learned about polarized sunglasses. i got some lenses, and before i put them in my glasses, j taught me that you can turn your head sideways (ear up) to make the polarizing effect disappear. this meant that we had to flop our heads back and forth all weekend in order to see glare-noglare-glare-noglare. (ok, it was just ME who had to do this. j had to endure stares as i flopped my head around! it's so cool, and hard to stop once you start.)
