i was getting a little worried that something had gone wrong with my last haircut - wasn't getting the usual random compliments from african americans around town. but then i realized - i was in white-on-white wisconsin for the majority of the time since the last trim...and yesterday, i made three new friends.

after being in madison for more than a week, i did notice and appreciate dc's diversity as soon as i returned monday morning. here there are so many people, from so many places, speaking so many languages. even the airport here is more interesting! (though the airport employees tend to be significantly surlier in a big city - in madison, the airport is mainly staffed by sweet, cheery, confused retirees)

anyway, dc is a good place to live, and not just because folks like my hair and call me sweetheart.
